Role of

Physiotherapy is a science-based profession and takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle. At the core is the patient’s involvement in their own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment. You can benefit from physiotherapy at any time in your life. Physiotherapy helps with back pain or sudden injury, managing long-term medical condition such as asthma, and in preparing for childbirth or a sporting event.

Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice. They maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease.

"Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person’s physical, emotional, and mental states.”~ Carol Welch.

How Physiotherapy Works

  • The aim of Physiotherapy

The aim of physiotherapy is to help restore movement and normal body function in cases of illness, injury and disability. As well as treating a specific problem, your physiotherapist may also suggest ways you can improve your general wellbeing.

    Holistic Approach

Physiotherapists take a holistic approach, looking at the body as a whole rather than focusing on the individual factors of an injury or illness.

    Back Pain can be Caused

For example, back pain can be caused by a number of different things, including. poor posture, inherited spinal deformity, bending or twisting awkwardly, overstretching, standing for long periods, lifting or carrying objects incorrectly.

    Relieve Pain and Discomfort

A physiotherapist will look at your individual situation. As well as treating the problem, they may also suggest things you can do on a daily basis to help relieve pain and discomfort.
  • Use of New Technology

A skilled health practitioner can use their senses of sight, touch, hearing and smell to great effect in assessing a patient's health condition. Unfortunately these cannot tell us everything about someone's condition. Some of the latest technologies are explained here.

    Whole Body Vibration

Whole Body Vibration is technology developed by the Russian space program to increase gravitational forces on your muscles so that your exercise if more effective and efficient.

    Real Time Ultrasound

Real Time Ultrasound uses sound waves to allow the visual appreciation of your muscles and how they function. As a biofeedback tool you can get improved muscle activation in a shorter time.

GaitScan is a university-grade force platform that measures the forces absorbed by your foot and their timings when walking so that a better understanding of your foot mechanics can be gained.
